Day 319 - John the Plumber
November 14 2008, 1:38am
John Carleton
We've had some serious rain the past week, so I wasn't surprised when I found some water in the basement. Had the morning off so I spent most of it caulking gaps in the siding to hopefully fix the source.
That got me to thinking about other home repair items on my list, such as re-caulking the sink. In the process I pulled everything out from underneath it and found some moisture. Woo hoo! Far as I can tell it's an issue with the old caulk allowing water through from the counter top. Un-caulked, re-caulked, and this morning, the front caulk line has dirty spots. Apparently it's wetter under there than I realized. So I'm probably going to have to pull that caulk out, let it dry out for a day or two, and try again. Which is annoying 'cause the kitchen sink gets used quite a bit. I guess we'll be washing dishes in the tub for a couple days.
Ah, the joys of being a homeowner. But as I like to say, I'd rather have a leaky roof over my head than none at all. :-)
